1. Addition strategies:
Algorithm: 59+27, first add the digits in far right column, the ones column, which is 9+7=16. Then, put the ones digit in 16, the 6 in the ones column. Then, put the tens digit, 1 in the tens column. Then, add the digits in the next column over, in this case the tens column, which is 5+3+1=9. then, write the answer in the tens column, and you're done. The answer is 93.
Mental: 59+37, first add 9+7 which is 16, then add 50+30 which is 80, then add 16+80 which is 96.
Algorithm: 72-68, first you can't do 2-8 because 8 is bigger than 2. So instead, you take 10 from he next column making the 7, 6 and the 2, 12. Then you subtract 12-8 which is 4 so you write it down. then you subtract 6-6 which is 0 so you write it down too. The answer is 04.
